Homestead Bar & Grill In Meridian Has 40 Craft Beer Taps, Good Food Too

Thursdays are Brewery Takeover Nights, with a different brewery coming in each week with samples and beer specials. Their beer menu has a nice rotating choice of beers on 40 taps, with everything from a Teton Range IPA from Grand Teton Brewing and a Sockeye Brewing Kickback IPA through a Homestead Anniversary DIPA and a Odell Brewing Big Cookie Brown Ale. A Willettized Coffee Stout is for those who like a dark, rich stout, flavored in bourbon and rye whiskey barrels from Willett Distillery in Kentucky.

For those who prefer something light, they do have Bud Light, Corona, Stella Artois and several more beers to keep everyone happy. The staff is knowledgeable about the beers and very helpful in making choices. Homestead is definitely one of the better drinking establishments in the Treasure Valley to try some good beers. It is a comfortable place, with plenty of tables and a nice expansive bar. The bar doesn’t just serve beer though. They had a delicious Moscow Mule too. On sports days/nights, it can get very packed because of the nice large TV’s, good food and good drink. As a neighborhood place, it really shows that they have a large following.

Food choices at the Homestead Bar & Grill in Meridian are wide with some very interesting signature items. The Mac Daddies are a selection of macaroni and cheese dishes, each made to order and baked in a house-made Mac Daddy Sauce. A simple Classic Baked Mac & Cheese consists of macaroni topped with three layers of cheese. The Idaho Mac brings, as the menu says, all the goodness of a loaded baked potato, with the macaroni topped with fries, bacon, onions and sour cream. On one visit, the Outlaw Mac looked like a great choice to try. The macaroni is tossed with bacon and jalapeños, then baked and topped with a large onion ring and a house made cilantro-lime sauce. The cool sauce tempered the heat nicely, yielding a nice balance of flavors.

Another signature item that Homestead Bar & Grill has is their burgers. The Mushroom Swiss Burger was excellent, with a nicely seasoned patty and lots of tasty mushrooms and gooey Swiss cheese. Lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles rounded out the burger which came with a choice of fries or a salad. The fries were nice and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The Jalapeño Burger was also very nice, with bacon and pepper jack cheese as well as the jalapeños adding nice flavor and kick, with the Lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles adding a nice texture and flavor. Several other creative burgers, with portabella mushrooms, pork carnitas, guacamole, pineapple and even a fried egg provide ample choices.

On another visit, Fish and Chips was the meal of choice. It was very good, with several nice Alaskan cod filets battered in an IPA batter and fried. The fish was nicely cooked, flaky and steamy when tasted. The tartar sauce was also very good and the chips were nicely done. Overall, it was a really good basket of fish and chips. The menu has other dishes under their classics menu too, including a Flat Iron Steak, Fish Tacos, BBQ Pulled Pork and a Grilled Steak or Chicken Kabob. Also on the menu are Finger Steaks, hand cut, battered and deep fried and served with their house-made cocktail sauce in true Boise fashion.

The salads are a nice choice for many, with the standout item being their Cobb Salad. This popular salad was huge, with plenty of fresh romaine lettuce accompanied by lots of diced turkey, bacon, tomatoes, black olives and crumbled bleu cheese. A nice sliced hardboiled egg graced the plate, as well as a lovely sliced avocado. Their were plenty of dressing choices, with the Bleu Cheese giving a nice creamy coating to the ingredients in the salad.

The comprehensive menu at Homestead Bar & Grill in Meridian also includes appetizers such as Buffalo Wings with a choice of sauces. Mondays are Wing Nights with a $2 off special. Other appetizers include Cubano Sliders, Eggplant Parmesan Fries and Homestead Nachos. Several sandwiches and pitas are available on the menu, including choices such as a Veggie Pita, Souvlaki Pita, a Gyro Pita and a Chicken Caesar Pita. Sandwiches include a Reuben, a Beer Brat, a French Dip and a Homestead Club. They also have Chili, made daily and available in a cup or bowl. Daily specials are also a nice choice. A Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf Dinner, Chicken Fajita Sandwich, Braised Coors Light Asian Short Ribs, Chicken Bacon Pot Pie and a Friday Catfish Dinner are recent specials. There is a Kids Menu with the usual choices, but also a make-your-own-pizza that kids will love.

On weekends, the Homestead Bar & Grill in Meridian opens early at 9am with a Weekend Breakfast. There are several good choices for a filling start to the day, including French Toast, a hash brown-based Country Bowl, the Homestead Classic Quiche and a Cowboy Sandwich with two fried eggs and bacon, ham or a beer brat. There is also a Kid’s Breakfast Menu.

Homestead Bar & Grill in Meridian is located at the corner of Chinden and Linder. The location on Chinden makes it an easy trip for many from Boise and Eagle. With their 40 rotating taps they are able to give serious craft beer drinkers a nice choice of beers to try. Especially at their Brewery Takeover Nights, they also give beer drinkers a chance to enjoy a different brewery each week, sample the brewery’s beers and talk to their reps or brewers to find out much more info about the beers than you could at most places. Homestead Bar & Grill is a great choice for quality food and some excellent beers.

  1. Obviously, the main focus here is on the beer (alcohol) and the food takes a dismal second. I honestly thought the whole place sucked and there wasn’t even a refill offered on the ice tea, which was served luke-warm.

    I, for one, will not be back to this place. Glad someone, somewhere PAID you for a review of this otherwise mediocre place.

    • I understand your complaints about the place. Everyone has a different experience, sorry yours was bad there.
      Where you are completely wrong however—–I was not paid for this interview. We do not accept advertising at the Boise Beat. On this, as on all the other reviews, I paid for my own meal and visited anonymously. They had no idea who I was or treated me any different. So you are entitled to criticize the place on your own experience, but you are not entitled to libel me or otherwise insult my integrity.

    • YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT A BEER FAN. DON’T KNOW WHY YOU WOULD GO TO A BAR AND GRILL AND LEAVE A POOR COMMENT ASA YOU HAVE. SORRY YOUR TEA WAS NOT COLD AND YOU FEEL THE FOOD WAS SECOND RATE. I FOR ONE LOVED THE FOOD AND I GOT FAST FRIENDLY SERVICE WITH A SMILE AND THE WAITRESS CAME BACK AND MADE SURE ALL WAS GREAT. WONDERFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS QUITE BUSY. I AM 68 AND MY WIFE AND I WILL GO BACK. GOOD LUCK TO YOU…..RICH.

  2. I WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYONE TRY THIS FOOD EVEN IF YOU DO NOT DRINK. I USED TO BE A BEER DRINKER AND STILL LIKE AN OCCASIONAL CRAFT BEER. MY WIFE AND I RECEIVED FAST FRIENDLY SERVICE. WE ENJOYED OUR CATFISH MEAL AND WILL GO BACK. THE CATFISH WAS REMARKABLE AS I’M SURE THE REST OF THE MENU WOULD BE. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR RETURN AND WE WILL TRY ANOTHER DISH.
