A good burger is nice to find. Main Street Burger in Meridian seems to have found a way to make one that satisfies. The menu is simple—–burgers, fries, tater tots and a classic Nathan’s hot dog. A chicken sandwich and salads are also on the menu for those who would rather avoid beef. For the kids, a kid’s menu is available with mini corn dogs, a kid’s Silver Dollar Burger and chicken strips. The menu even has Boise’s own specialty, a basket of finger steaks with fries. For dessert, Main Street Burger has ice cream, shakes and floats.

Of course, the star of the show is the burger. The patties are 1/3 pound of organic beef. This does make a differnce, as the meat on the sandwich has good taste, with the beefy flavor not overwhelmed by the condiments. Burger choices are simple, with singles and doubles and a few specialty burgers such as the 5 Alarm Burger, with jack cheese and jalapẽnos for a nice kick. Bacon, guacamole and cheese are options for the burger.

Ordering is simple at Main Street Burger. Place your order at the counter and they’ll bring the food to your table. A popular option is the drive-thru, which was filled with a steady stream of cars. The staff at Main Street Burger were quite friendly and efficient and seemed to truly enjoy their work. It took a few minutes for the food to come out since it was cooked to order. No heat lamps at Main Street Burger!

So what about the food? The tater tots were simply amazing. Crisp, well seasoned and hot, they were some of the best tater tots I’ve had. The order size was large, with more then enough for two or more people. A dipping sauce was at the table, sort of a ketchup/mayo/hot sauce blend that was spicy but not with too much of a kick, was great for dipping the tater tots into.

The double cheeseburger was delicious. It was simply dressed, with just a nice slab of tomato, some sliced red onion and a really fresh piece of green leaf lettuce. Mayo is offered on it, although you can use one of many other sauces or condiments on it if you choose. The meat was nicely cooked, with a tasty caramelized exterior. The bun too was excellent, a fresh cornmeal dusted bun strong enough to hold together and nicely toasted. With two 1/3 pound organic beef patties and two slices of cheese, this is a substantial, filling burger.

The 5 Alarm burger had a nice kick to it from the pepper jack cheese and the jalapẽnos. It was just spicy enough that it woke up your taste buds, while still allowing you to taste the flavor of the meat. The pickled jalapẽnos were great, adding heat but also a zing from the tart flavor of the pickling brine.

Main Street Burger is owned by its next door neighbor, Kahootz Steak and Alehouse. They seem to have the same attitude as Kahootz as far as friendly waitstaff and quality products. Main Street Burger is a great choice when you’re in downtown Meridian.
