Treefort Music Festival in Boise begins March 20 and runs through March 24. don’t be fooled, however—Treefort over the years has expanded venues and offerings to encompass virtually anything fun and creative in the Treasure Valley. With five days of music of various genres coming up, there is certain to be something for everyone. However, there is now many other types of events—offshoots such as Yogafort, Foodfort, Alefort, Filmfort, Storyfort, Vidfort and more give a wide range of activities.
Music, of course, is at the root of the Treefort Music Festival in Boise. This year, 432 bands of many genres will be featured. National acts like Liz Phair and The Puscie Jones Review will perform, along with Idaho-based performers such as Built to Spill and Treepeople. Zach Quintana, the young Boise-based blues guitarist/singer/songwriter will be showcased also. International performers are coming from long distances, such asJ-Pop stars Chai from Nagoya Japan and Yamantaka // Sonic Titan from Toronto, Canada. Indie, Funk, Electronica, Folk, Rock and more, every type of music is represented at Treefort. The Boise Phil will even make an appearance with a special classical show as part of the music palette that is Treefort.
Many of the events are lectures and demos, covering areas from food and video to writing and illustrating. Ballet Folklorico Mexico Lindo will hold a dance workshop, while Ballroom Etiquette Class will delve into the proper decorum for this perennial dance favorite. The future is shown in many ways, from the Youth Variety showcase to lectures on Solar Roadways and Technology and the Future of Awakening. Sports has ePanels and the Treasure Valley Roller Derby holding an exhibition bout. Meditation, Virtual Reality Tech and Children’s Storytime also provide options for finding something to enjoy.
Foodfort and Alefort provide opportunities for demos, tastings, workshops and meals. From Street Eats to a fine dining Steak Lunch, there are plenty of chances to enjoy good food. Knife Skills will be taught and there is a lecture on Cider and the Basque Culture. Alefort even has a challenging Yeast Switch-A-Roo. Noted Chef Hugh Acheson will be attending Foodfort with cooking and demos as well as doing the Steak Lunch. Local favorites Madre, Petite 4 and the Wylder are among the local Boise restaurants and chefs appearing at Foodfort.
Radio Boise and the Boise Contemporary Theater will be doing projects for Treefort. Hackfort provides a meeting place for high-tech people to meet, learn and network. Comedyfort will tickle your funny-bone with a great lineup of comedians.
To accommodate all the events, varied locations in Boise will each hold varied performances, demos and more. The Treefort Music Festival in Boise has places like the Knitting Factory JUMP, Neurolux and the Owyhee as some of their locations. Foodfort and Alefort are concentrated in and around the Basque Center, with several other events taking place at Mode Lounge and other locations. The main stages of course will be a hubbub of activity throughout the festival.
With so much to do, plan on an hour or so just to peruse the website and schedule for Treefort and the other Forts. Admission to the various events is by ticket, daily or event passes and some events are even free. With as many options as there are, the hardest part of attending the Treefort Music Festival in Boise will be cutting it down to the 50 or so events you want to see and bands you want to hear at Boise’s premier festival!
