Meriwether Cider House

No apple will be left behind at the new Meriwether Cider House in downtown Boise. Early this year Meriwether announced that they will be opening a cider house at 224 N. 9th St. Initially I thought they meant they’re opening a downtown tasting room, but after I calmed down and reread their press release I realized this is going to be so much more. They plan to have all their own concoctions on tap but are also bringing in local, regional and international ciders for a total of 20 taps. If that number isn’t big enough for you, they plan to have imported bottles for purchase that you can drink on site as well. The possibilities are endless!

Here’s a fun fact, there are less than 30 cider houses in the United States; I was shocked by this. I guess I haven’t heard of many cider houses (and definitely thought a cider house was a cidery, which it’s not) but I thought there had to be at least 30, if not more. Because of this rarity, Meriwether is not only putting themselves on the map in the cider world, but is bringing Boise along for the ride.

I’ve already decided that the Meriwether Cider House will be my new hang-spot and can’t wait for it to open. Being given the opportunity to try ciders from around the world but not have to leave town will be such a gift to all craft-drinkers in Boise. You always see or hear about beer and wine from other parts of the country and world, but not for cider. So do yourself a favor and get pumped for some cider-cation in your own backyard courtesy of Meriwether Co. I will be the first in line to check this place out and hope you all do as well.

As of right now, they haven’t mentioned when they plan to open the Meriwether Cider House, but they move in and start renovations March 1. The taproom in Garden City will continue to stay open and keep regular hours. I’m planning on writing more on this as updates are released so give TheBoiseBeat a follow on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.
