Big Mic's Presents Johnny Boy Kunk Live Friday NightBig Mic’s presents Johnny Boy Kunk in a special Friday night blues show on August 16. Mike Larson, of Big Mic’s, said “Johnny Kunk came into Big Mic’s one night and told me he was a Mississippi muddy blues artist. I said to him, pick a guitar and show me what you got bro. He sat out front on the bench in front of Big Mic’s and I watched him play that guitar like it was part of his anatomy. You could almost see the Blues running through his veins. His sound is in a class of its own. I’ve got 42 years in the business of listening to artists do their thing and they have been few and far between when you stumble on this kind of talent. I told Johnny Boy he is the real deal and I’ve been a fan ever since.”

Big Mic’s in Kuna has been a focal point for many types of live music for quite a while now, but blues is at their hear of the performances there. Mike added, “It’s All About The Music is Big Mic’s Original Slogan or corner stone that we built around. The Music is what excites people. It’s music that brings people and communities together. My wife Marisol and I built Big Mic’s as a Music Venue for original artists to debut their sound in front of the community; hopefully as a tool for their advancement in their music.”

Johnny Boy Kunk performs a gritty, down home style of one-man blues, an electrified stomp that gets your feet going and your taste buds hankering for southern BBQ. Johnny Boy Kunk has some great things coming up. He said, “Johnny Boy Kunk’s new album, Rough Start, released by Octocorn Records is the exact indicator of Johnny’s new growth. Johnny’s new album holds a wide spectrum of styles ranging from back porch acoustic tunes to a jukin’ and jivin’ hill-country blues, all the way to Johnny’s dark and heavy droning tunes that touch the soul on a deeper level.”

Johnny’s description of his sound reads like a profile of the old bluesmen like Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. “With a whiskey soaked voice and a muddy crunch guitar tone to match it, Johnny Boy Kunk’s soul pours from each note as his picks, slides, slaps, and bends the bluesy notes from his guitar as if it were an extension of his being. Armed with an electric semi-hollow body guitar, resonator guitar, harmonica, and foot stomp, slide, and occasional pocket knife; Johnny captivates his audiences every show guaranteed.” Indeed, this show will really get the juices flowing with high-energy blues.

Johnny Boy Kunk’s new song, Sunshine of My Life, shows the gritty blues that Johnny is noted for. Rather than needing a full band, Johnny Boy Kunk brings a full sound with just his collection of guitars, his gritty vocals and his foot stomp. The new album, Rough Start, will be released in October shows that Johnny Boy Kunk is a blues talent to be reckoned with. When Big Mic’s presents Johnny Boy Kunk this Friday, it will give guests a chance to hear new blues, styled in the old classic blues of the Mississippi Delta.following in the footsteps of such greats as John Lee Hooker, Johnny Boy Kunk’s foot stomp blues is something to behold.

One thing Big Mic’s is passionate about is bringing music to the public free of charge, hoping this will further the careers of the musicians and allow them to pursue their art.. Mike Larson said, “Mathematically, in 41 years I have yet to see in this business a musician get paid what they are really worth, only because of the economics of the bar business. However, we lift up every musician that walks through our doors and do our best to support them all. It’s really important to tip out these musicians if your enjoying what you are hearing. People don’t like to pay cover charges, making it even harder for the venue to compensate our musicians their true value to perform. I hope people will come support Johnny Boy Kunk and watch him blaze his trail to the big time.”
