Belly Dancing, just one of the shows at the Hyde Park Street Fair 2019

You had me at “Belly Dancers!”

Who can resist free live music, delicious food, and thousands of smiling faces? I couldn’t, and so I hopped an Uber and headed to the 40th annual Hyde Park Street Fair. A lot of people arrived on GreenBike’s, or they glided in on a Bird or Lime scooter. Regardless of how we all got there, we’d made a decision to get out there and enjoy the beautiful Boise sunshine with one another.

The Hyde Park Street Fair runs 3 days in September here in Boise, Idaho, and is hosted and promoted by the North End Neighborhood Association, a group formed to help keep the North End healthy, safe, and sustainable.

I hopped out of my Uber and became part of clamor of activity from folks of every age group. Typical of Boise’s residents, everyone had a smile and good things to say to each other as they shared the walkways and the greens and the shade and the fresh air.

Gyros stand at Hyde Park Street FairAs a seasoned Boise Hyde Park Street Fair aficionado, my first concern was finding food and beverage. Yes, I admit, finding the belly dancers was still at the top of my list, but first thing’s first. By the way, if you’re new to Boise or if you’re just visiting, the first thing you’ll want to do is attend the fairs and other public events that are held year-round. There’s a darn good reason why Boise is at the top of a short list of amazing cities to live in. Yes, it’s true that a lot of the men here sport thick lush beards, and that’s reason enough, but the real reason is because of Boise hospitality.

After feeding myself a piece of pizza at Pie Hole, one of the dozens of food vendors, I headed off to find things to feed to my camera. There were so many colors! I attended all 3 days of the Hyde Park Street Fair, 2019, and I wanted to share with you some of the sights that caught my camera’s eye.

The bands photographed here were primarily the closing acts for each of the 3 days of the Boise Hyde Park Street Fair; Jeff Crosby & The Refugees, Steve Fulton Music, and Matt Hopper & The Roman Candles. And of course, the highlight of my experience, the Star Belly Dancers.
