The Idaho City Band Jam 2020 at the Gold Mine Saloon and GrillThe Idaho City Band Jam 2020 takes place on Saturday, March 14. Seven local bands will take part in this event in scenic Idaho City, just a short drive from Boise. Taking place on the Trailer Park Stage at the Gold Mine Grill & Saloon, the event isn’t your ordinary show from the usual concert promoter. Instead, the Idaho City Band Jam 2020 is the creation of Felicity Dodge, currently a Senior at Idaho City High School.

Felicity conceived the event for her Senior Project. She told The Boise Beat, “I decided to put on this event because I had to come up with a senior project that could improve community involvement. I also wanted to do something that hadn’t really been done in Idaho City before.” She chose the theme of the Band Jam because “I knew there are many bands in the Boise area that were either small or just not had a lot of listeners. I loved the idea of having local bands play and I think it is amazing seeing small local bands become bigger and grow their fan bases”.

The bands featured at the show are all composed of young local musicians. They are Corduroy Blue, Illicit NatureVemm, The Scenic Route, Captain Snafu, Tularosa Band and Oddyssy. Speaking about the participation of his band The Scenic Route, guitarist and songwriter Thomas Wilson said, “I’m really excited that the Idaho Band Jam Event was created by Felicity. It’s not often that you have 6 or 7 local bands playing at one venue all day. Not only will this be a really fun time, but it also helps all the bands build relations with each other and with each band’s audience so maybe there can be another one of these that’s bigger sometime. It’s very community based which one if the things I love about it!”

Felicity echoed that sentiment when she said, “For this project it had to implement community involvement, so I did something that was in my home town. I was originally going to do it at a park, but decided that with spring weather it may not have been good on the day of the event. My mentor, Steve Twilegar, is the owner of the Gold Mine where he has had many bands and solo artists perform. I talked to him because it was a known place for live music and had the space to have heating if weather was cold.

Thomas, who also plays with SUDA and Blind Harpdog’s All Star Band, is looking forward to performing his original music at the Idaho City Band Jam 2020. He said about their sound, “My music combines old blues/rock with a psychedelic indie vibe. The goal in my music is to share my own experience and perception of life to an audience and connect with the audience via what they hear. Overall I hope to give hope and a sense that we’re all human to the world. My band is named The Scenic Route because that’s what life is.”

The Gold Mine Grill and Saloon is an ideal venue for Felicity’s event. The Trailer Park Stage, on the Gold Mine’s back patio should be a great location for the show. Featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a full bar, the Gold Mine Grill and Saloon will make it easy to enjoy some good local music as well as a variety of food and drink. The nearby Gold Mine Hotel, under the same management, will make it easy for those who want to come for the whole weekend to find a nice place to stay within a short walk of the Idaho City Historical District

The event has been planned to be family friendly so it is a great way to have a fun family day up in fresh-air country. The show is free, although donations will gladly be accepted. This is a wonderful way to see some of the area’s best new bands perform in a stunning setting.
