Grateful came truckin’ into Caldwell last Friday night with a live concert at the Indian Creek Plaza. Many favorite Grateful Dead tunes were played, such as Mississippi Half–Step Uptown Toodleo. The Other One featured an awesome dual drummer solo, blending into the signature instrumentals from the guitars, bass and keyboards as one of the night’s favorites. Scarlet Begonias was a crowd pleaser and really got the crowd dancing at the Indian Creek Plaza.
Bernie Reilly headed an all-star lineup of local musicians as Jerry Garcia (lead guitar, vocals) Sean Hatton as Bob Weir (guitar/vocals), Louis McFarland as Bill Kreutzman (drums), Christine Thomas as Donna Godcheaux (vocals), Tomas Paul as Keith/Brent/Vince (keyboards), Bob Nagel as Phil Lesh (bass) and Jason Grazian as Mickey Hart (percussion).
Masks of all types were in abundance, with even some of the band wearing them. With the nice, expansive stage and the open air venue at Indian Creek Plaza it was easy for Grateful to social distance. Friendly faces were also in abundance and it was nice to see people able to enjoy themselves in this new world of ours. Seth Brown of To Entertain U Productions did an amazing job putting this event together. Food trucks wereWok and Roll and Walking Sombrero Tacos, who made a really amazing chicken burrito. There were also vendors with many different items as well as abundant beverages. The great sound and lighting by CP Audio really made this an astounding outdoor show.
Sean Hatton, who looked from the stage towards the audience—part as himself and part with his Bob Weir persona—had this to say. “The show was full of energy; we really felt ‘One, with the audience’ as there was this obvious sense/need/desire for togetherness. We were really proud of how many people kept appropriate spacing, wore masks, and treated each other with decency and respect.”
He thought that “The venue was perfect for that wide open space we needed, and ToEntertainU were great partners and managed the event well.”
Musically, he felt that “The set list had several songs we hadn’t attempted yet, so there was plenty of Easter eggs for the band as well.”
Sean couldn’t have been happier, saying, “Really, a perfect evening for us. So grateful for all who attended.”
He summed it up by adding, “Hoping we can do it again soon!”
As previewed in The Boise Beat, the Grateful show exceeded all expectations and really left the crowd calling for more encores. There was also plenty of opportunity for good photos as Grateful came truckin’ into Caldwell, so look now at what photographer Terry Welch saw for The Boise Beat.
