Johnny Kunk’s Birthday Blues Bash is coming up Sunday, November 22 at 6 pm. It is being held at Big Mic’s BBQ and Saloon in Kuna. The festivities will include a show by Johnny as he performs his signature Mississippi Muddy Water Blues Music from 6 to 9pm. Johnny’s is a popular Boise bluesman and it’s great that Big Mic’s is hosting his 26thBirthday. Pre-show fun will start at 5pm.
Johnny has played at Big Mic’s several times and “Big Mike” Larson has this to say, As I have said many times JBK is a force behind his Mississippi Muddy blues music. Big Mic’s Saloon & BBQ SMOKE HOUSE is Honored to celebrate and host Johnny’s 26th Birthday. If you haven’t met Johnny you owe it to yourself to come have a listen. AS his soul talk’s through his music. This young talented man has a past in his soul he is only going to be 26 and his music expresses he’s been around for a century if not centuries! I always tell him to remember us when he transitions to the Big Stage and come back and play for us he met along the way. He chuckled humbly and said he will! I am excited for where Johnny Boy Kunk is headed with his talented Blues music. Definitely a musician that adds to his fan base every time new ears get a listen to his signature sound!
Johnny Boy Kunk takes you back to the days of Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters, old bluesmen that performed a gritty, crunchy electric guitar. Johnny’s semi-hollow body electric guitar is perfect for his one man stomp blues that he performs. He also plays a resonator guitar and uses a slide and even an occasional pocket knife! All totaled, he produced some high-energy blues that can captivate any audience. Marisol Larson is also thrilled to be hosting Johnny Kunk’s Birthday Blues Bash and said, Johnny’s old soul in our modern world is our gateway to connect with an era and a sound that is so rich in roots & soul. We are nothing short of “blessed” to have Johnny Boy Kunk amongst us with his Mississippi Muddy Water Blues, here in the Treasure Valley.

Well, of course The Boise Beat could not go without letting Johnny weigh in on his own birthday. He said, I am real excited for playing Big Mic’s for my birthday this year. I have never been real big on celebrating my own birthdays and enjoy a much more laid back atmosphere of folks enjoying themselves naturally. But that is exactly why I chose to reach out to Big Mic for hosting a party at his joint; his place IS that laid back, natural environment where everyone enjoys themselves. The BBQ is a great fit for my blues-loving folks and the family-like feel from the staff always seems appreciated by my friends in the past
Big Mic’s BBQ and Saloon will be having some tasty specials along with their regular menu of delicious BBQ treats on Sunday. BBQ Burgers, Wings, Smokehouse Shrimp and pitmaster Salads will be available. Eight mac & cheese bowls are always made fresh to order from scratch. Smoked Brisket on a Bagel is just so incredibly good it is a must have! The Boise Beat highlighted some of their foods here. Big Mic’s has weathered this year, providing great BBQ for people even when all they could do is pick it up and take it home so they could enjoy something other than food cooked at home once in a while.
Johnny Kunk’s Birthday Blues Bash is but one day in this year. Johnny talked about it, saying, This year 2020 has been a lot of division and separation amongst people for many reasons. I too have felt lost during all this confusion and being able to invite my friends of all backgrounds to come together and enjoy a night of good times on their own pace has been something I have wanted to do for a while. Individuals are so complex with their beliefs and opinions; so being able to Welconnect people with the three essentials is my pleasure… That is Blues, BBQ, n Booze.
Johnny Boy Kunk has been prolific with his song writing and his album releases. He just had this to add to wrap up his musical feeling currently, saying that, Lately I haven’t written any new lyrics, but rather just composing new in-the-moment tunes at my recent shows. I just feel this melody in my soul and I go for it. Sometimes I throw some lyrics or a lesson into it, but it’s just feel good music expressing that moment; and I feel it’s a needed thing for many these days… Just being able to speak your mind with freedom despite other’s judgement or scrutiny. It’s been a form of expression left up for individual interpretation… and thats JUST the beauty in it for myself.
Johnny Kunk’s Birthday Blues Bash will feature plenty of good food and delicious BBQ. Of course, there are Big Mic’s Specialty Smoked Drinks, tasty cocktails and excellent craft beers on tap. Located in downtown Kuna, Big Mic’s is a short drive from anywhere in the Treasure Valley.
