Julia Davis Park comes alive with soulful sounds, diverse food, and a vibrant celebration of Boise’s rich culture.
The Boise Soul Food Festival returned in grand fashion on August 10, 2024, transforming Julia Davis Park into a bustling hub of culture, cuisine, and celebration. This year’s festival was a vibrant reflection of Boise’s diversity, drawing crowds from across the region to enjoy a day of soulful entertainment, delicious food, and community spirit.
From 11 AM to 8 PM, the festival featured an impressive lineup of performers that kept the energy high throughout the day. The Share Your Talent Stage and the Gene Harris Band Shell hosted a variety of artists, each bringing their unique sound to the event. Attendees were treated to performances by Rap America Project, Gabriel Matheney, Band Man Isi, The Real James Dixon, Shawn Tuck, LC TwoHunnaa, and more. The musical genres ranged from rap and Afro Beats to soul, R&B, and inspirational music, providing something for every taste.
Over at the Gene Harris Band Shell, the crowd enjoyed performances by Ryan Gage, the Idaho BCA Gospel Workshop Choir, Angela Via, Mungo Ligoya, and the Orale Band, among others. The variety of music on offer ensured that the atmosphere remained lively and inclusive, making it a day to remember for all who attended.
Food was, of course, a central attraction at the festival. A mouth-watering selection of vendors offered an array of delectable dishes that showcased both traditional soul food and international flavors. Festival-goers savored the offerings from Auntie June’s JamRock Cuisine, Big Beantz Taco Co., Chop Shop BBQ, Georgie Bea’s, Meltz Extreme Grilled Cheese, Oh Vegan Soul, Ya Mon Jamaican Jerk Grill, and many more. Whether it was the smoky goodness of Big K BBQ, the Caribbean delights from Taste of Caribbean, or the refreshing treats from Stella’s Ice Cream and Sunset Soft Serve, there was something to satisfy every palate.
The festival also featured the much-loved Rib Eating Contest, which drew a crowd eager to watch contestants take on plates of succulent ribs in a battle of appetite and endurance.
This year’s Boise Soul Food Festival was not just an event but a celebration of community, bringing together people from all walks of life to enjoy a day filled with music, food, and fun. The festival continues to be a cornerstone of Boise’s summer events, offering a space for cultural exchange and the sharing of good times.
