Wichita\u2011based <a href=\"https:\/\/treefortmusicfest.com\/performer\/rudy-love-the-encore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rudy\u00a0Love\u00a0&amp;\u00a0The\u00a0Encore<\/a> do just that, performing under a name that honors singer and soul legend Rudy\u00a0Love\u00a0Sr. Led by Rudy\u00a0Love\u00a0Jr. (vocals\/keys) alongside drummer Marrque\u00a0Nunley and vocalist Mariel\u00a0Jacoda, the group formed in early 2023 to carry forward the Love family\u2019s musical spirit. Additional members; percussionist Rachelle\u00a0Love, bassist Sherdeill\u00a0\u201cDJ\u201d\u00a0Breathett and guitarist Willy\u00a0Simms; round out the ensemble, creating a lush, multi\u2011layered sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The band released their debut EP The\u00a0Beauty\u00a0of\u00a0Burdens in 2023 and quickly followed with singles \u201cBroken\u00a0Angel\u201d and \u201cGrey,\u201d which blend elements of gospel, funk and rock. They\u2019ve since collaborated with drummer\/vocalist Elise\u00a0Trouw and opened for artists ranging from Teddy\u00a0Swims to The\u00a0B\u201152\u2019s. Moving from Los\u00a0Angeles back to Kansas allowed them to reconnect with family roots, and their music radiates that sense of home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1978\" height=\"2560\" src=\"https:\/\/theboisebeat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/DSCF1898-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11928\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theboisebeat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/DSCF1898-scaled.jpg 1978w, https:\/\/theboisebeat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/DSCF1898-768x994.jpg 768w, https:\/\/theboisebeat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/DSCF1898-325x420.jpg 325w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1978px) 100vw, 1978px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Treefort, their set at Cyclops and a separate evening show at the Basque Center were soulful celebrations. Rudy\u00a0Jr. switched between piano and vintage synths, his voice alternately tender and powerful. The band delivered tight funk grooves on \u201cAll\u00a0Mine,\u201d gospel\u2011tinged harmonies on \u201cBroken\u00a0Angel\u201d and psychedelic rock textures on \u201cGrey.\u201d Between songs, Love shared stories about growing up with a legendary father and the importance of honoring elders. When they closed with a medley of Rudy\u00a0Sr.\u2019s hits, a few audience members wiped away tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rudy\u00a0Love\u00a0&amp;\u00a0The\u00a0Encore\u2019s Treefort performances reminded us that festivals can be spaces for both remembrance and renewal. By bridging a family legacy through a contemporary lens, they forged a connection that transcended generations and genres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images
