Promotional flyer for the Idaho Veterans Parade 2025 in downtown Boise, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War (1961–1975). The event takes place on November 8, 2025, at 10 AM and honors Vietnam veterans with a parade route through W. Jefferson Street.

When Boise gathers to salute those who served, the meaning goes far deeper than flags and marching bands.

Every November, when the flags rise above downtown Boise and the crisp fall air carries the sound of drums, I’m reminded why I love this city. Idaho doesn’t just thank its veterans; we show up for them.

This year, on November 8, 2025, the Idaho Veterans Parade will march through downtown Boise once again. For me, it’s more than a local tradition. It’s a living reminder that gratitude isn’t passive; it’s something we demonstrate, together.

A Story That Stays With You

Last year, I stood at the corner of Bannock and 8th beside a retired Army Master Sergeant. Twenty-three years of service. Three Purple Hearts. A Bronze Star. He’d been shot four times in combat, one bullet through the neck—told he’d never walk or talk again.

But there he was.

When the Purple Heart float passed, he saluted. When the MIA/POW flag rolled by, he dropped to one knee and prayed. You could feel the silence ripple down the street.

That’s when it hit me: this parade isn’t about fanfare. It’s about healing. About hope. About honoring the invisible battles so many veterans still fight every day.

Why the Idaho Veterans Parade Matters

The Boise Veterans Day Parade began in 1975 with a simple mission; to say We see you. We honor you. You matter.

For many Idaho veterans, it’s the first time they’ve felt truly welcomed home. For others, it’s a sacred day to remember friends who never made it back.

In a state that proudly holds one of the highest veteran populations per capita, the Idaho Veterans Parade reminds us that our words of thanks should always come with action.

Because when we line the streets and cheer, we’re doing more than watching a parade. We’re saying, You are not alone.

How to Be Part of It

This isn’t a corporate production; it’s a community labor of love. Volunteers, donors, and neighbors make it happen every year.

If you’ve never attended, let this be the year. Bring your kids. Bring your parents. Wave a flag. Shake a veteran’s hand.

Want to do more? You can:

  • Volunteer: Help with setup, logistics, or parade coordination.
  • Donate: Every dollar funds essentials like safety barriers, city permits, and veteran certificates. (All donations are tax-deductible through this 501(c)(3) nonprofit.)
  • Spread the Word: Post about the parade, tag your friends, and use hashtags #IdahoVeteransParade and #BoiseVeterans.

Every Branch. Every Era. Every Hero.

Army. Navy. Marines. Air Force. Coast Guard. Space Force.
World War II. Korea. Vietnam. Desert Storm. Iraq. Afghanistan.

Every one of them deserves to be seen.

The Idaho Veterans Parade is Boise’s way of saying thank you; not once, but every year. And this year, when the flags wave and the drums echo off the Capitol, I’ll be standing on that same corner; coffee in one hand, flag in the other, watching the Master Sergeant salute the sky.

Because that’s what showing up looks like in Idaho.
