Sloppy Joe Platter at the Bodacious Pig Barbecue in Eagle

The Bodacious Pig Barbecue in Eagle has a Sloppy Joe that is not just your ordinary sandwich. Sure, they have great St. Louis Cut Pork Ribs and an awesome beef tri-tip plate and sandwiches too, but if you get there early then you might get lucky and be able to try their Sloppy Joe Sandwich. Now, most of us grew up with Sloppy Joes; that ground beef and cheap BBQ blend put on a bargain hamburger bun at school and home. Well, get that out of your mind and rush down to the Bodacious Pig Barbecue. Their Sloppy Joe is, as Humprey Bogart said in the Maltese Falcon, the stuff that dreams are made of.

At the end of the day, the Bodacious Pig Barbecue in Eagle has some leftover smoked meats. Of course, being smoked, they tend to be really good the next day too. Sometimes they even purposely make a little extra to be on the safe side. The next day, these meats, including the trimmings from the ribs, tri-tip ends and slices, chicken and sausage and pulled pork, get chopped up, mixed with their house BBQ sauce and heated just right. The flavor varies each day slightly, since one day they may have more of one ingredient than another, but that’s part of the fun of this sandwich. The Sloppy Joe mix is piled high on a freshly baked bun delivered daily from Gaston’s Bakery in Boise. Just to make sure it’s a perfect plate, it also comes with a side of beans, coleslaw or French fries. If you like spicy, there’s also some of their hot and spicy BBQ sauce that can be put on the Sloppy Joe to kick the heat up.

At this point, you might be salivating and say to yourself, I’ll stop by for dinner one night and try that. That’s not going to do it however. Since the quantity of the meats varies, these sandwiches are technically available only from 11-4pm. However, if you’ve been there before, you know the word is that it never makes it that far—with the Sloppy Joe’s popularity, it’s usually off the menu by noontime to early afternoon. Yes, not only is it that good, but it is also a great value, at only $5.00! So it is easy to see why the Sloppy Joe at The Bodacious Pig Barbecue in Eagle sells out fast. That is really not unknown too—-at the famous Franklin Barbecue in Austin Texas, their menu hours are simply listed as 11-SOLD OUT! (2 or 3pm).

Of course, if you do miss the Sloppy Joe, there are plenty of good items on the menu. Their ribs are tender, with just enough chewiness to make a nice bite. The tri-tip is among the most tender around, the beefy flavor showing why it has become a very popular cut for grilling and smoking. Combination plates, which allow 2 or 3 meats, are a good way to try several meats at The Bodacious Pig BBQ In Eagle. There is a good range of sandwiches too, including a BBQ Chicken BLT and a Bodacious Burger made from a blend of freshly ground brisket and sirlon. There are even a variety of salads, with or without meat on them. Finally, the kids menu gives the little ones some nice choices, including house-made chicken strips, a 3 Rib Plate, Mac and Cheese and Pulled Pork Nachos.

The Treasure Valley has no shortage of good barbecue restaurants and the Bodacious Pig Barbecue in Eagle certainly stands up there with the best. Knowing good barbecue, their meats certainly hit the right notes. While others have great barbecue sandwiches too, however, the Sloppy Joe certainly is a unique, delicious take on an old classic. So if you can get one some day, you’re in for a treat. If you’ve missed it, just know that you can try the meats in other ways that go in to make this wonderful, delicious sandwich.
